The Reality Of A “Second Chance”

Chris Carter is a spitting image of the definition of a second chance. A guy with a drug addiction and a killer instinct for football rehabilitates himself and goes on to become one of the best nfl wideouts of all time and a very well respected ESPN personality.

Consider him the exception to the rule. Why is it that in America it is those with money are idolized and given these second chances? The reality for the working class and corporate America is that there are no second chances.

It sends a counterproductive message to the youth in the city by signing Vick. This organization has built itself on character and drafting/signing players without any legal trouble.

So basically what the Eagles are telling the young kids in Philadelphia that you can mess up big time, serve almost no time in jail, come back out to be greeted by your peers and handed millions of dollars. What if Michael Vick ripped up his ACL in jail?

Pretty sure he would never have been given a shot by anyone outside of running his own football camp. Employees who fail a drug test at work dont get suspended for 2 games, they get fired. Its important to instill these facts into the minds of these kids.

I am in the mindset that everyone deserves a second chance if they are truly sorry for their actions and make changes in their lives. We live within the rules of the government we are a part of and he has served his time.

The Eagles are taking a huge risk, however, the idea of Vick, Dmac, Maclin, Westbrook, Mccoy, and Jackson lining up in the wildcat formation has to put the fear of god into any defensive coordinator.

If he does truly change and do great things off the field it would be a great story to capture the first Lombardi trophy in Eagles history.
