Andy Reid told Kevin Kolb that he was the team's second team quarterback and Kevin was wise enough to take it with a grain of salt. He knows his job is in jeopardy with Michael Vick now on the football team.
Think about it. Let's says the Birds are playing in the tenth game of the year and McNabb goes down. Who do you want to hand the ball to?
On one hand you've got a young quarterback who has never started a game in the NFL and on the other you have a quarterback who led a team to the NFC Championship game and has gone to three Pro Bowls.
Who do you want to hand the ball to?
I don't even need to point out the fact that by that time, Vick will have had nearly three months to be drilled in the Andy Reid-styled west coast offense.
Which quarterback have they said they're going to put in the game plan and have plays especially designed for him? The Eagles will have to have two quarterbacks active and the third can't be used until the first two are hurt.
Once you go to the third you can't go back to the first two. So how much is Kolb going to play.
Kevin Kolb is the team second team quarterback. Sure wake up and smell the coffee.
I must admit that at this particular second he's the second team quarterback but how long is that going to last once Vick is totally reinstated and activated.
Kolb injured his knee near the end of training camp at Lehigh University and he took some snaps yesterday during the period that the Eagles offense was installing new plays. You can see he's trying to get back in there as soon as possible.
He wasn't able to practice but he worked out with team trainer Rick Burkholder and other injured players, Jason Peters, Brent Celek and Trent Cole on one of the other fields as team practiced.
I could see him pushing himself to get back out there. He has a knee brace on and can't totally bend his knee but he was dragging it along on the run Burkholder was putting them through.
I give the young man credit for honestly letting everybody know that he knows his job isn't secure and he did it without doing any crying.
Oh yeah, somebody needs to tell A.J. not to be buying any properties in the area because he might be moving soon.
