I know Andy Reid wants King Dunlap and the other young players on the offensive line to think he believes in them, but we all know why he took Donovan McNabb out of the game after his hit DeSean Jackson for a TD.
Reid said McNabb was going to play the entire first half, but he took him out near the end of the first quarter.
I think the spin move by Dwight Freeney on Dunlap sobered up Andy and led him to get McNabb out of the game. I’m glad Freeney used that move and not the low one, which would have had him hitting McNabb’s legs.
I don’t think it was an accident that Freeney went after McNabb up high because he wouldn’t have wanted to hurt his Syracuse buddy in a preseason game. They’re friends from their days as Orangemen.
I was surprised that Reid sent Five back in there after the sack but once he hit Jackson with the touchdown pass, he got him out of there with the quickness. He was waiting for a chance to do it on a positive note.
Reid wouldn’t come out and say publicly that he was afraid of getting McNabb hurt because of the shakey blocking but we all know the deal.
He knows the Eagles can’t afford to get McNabb hurt in a meaningless preseason game.
