The Eagles have two opportunities this preseason to give Michael Vick some work and get him back in the swing of things. Do you think they're willing to throw one of them away by not letting him play on Thursday? I don't think so either.
Bottom line, Michael Vick will be playing on Thursday.
He's getting in better shape as every day goes by. They have him running in practice with the scout team and with any reps he takes with the offense.
I don't think he'll be in shape to take off on four or five long dashes from the pocket but he'll be able to play.
Andy Reid is not looking for Vick to show his ability to scramble and create out of the pocket. He wants him to operate out of the pocket.
Andy knows that Vick will be a much better quarterback, if he becomes the kind of quarterback who can sit in the pocket and pick apart a defense. If you add that to his ability to create pure mayhem as a scrambler, you see what Big Red is trying to create.
Vick has been doing a good job of standing in the pocket and delivering the football. That's all Andy wants him to do.
It might even become a compliment to him if somebody says why don't you run as much any more.
I'm now convinced that Reid sees Vick as a talent that can safisfy a number of needs. He could step in for Donovan now if he were to be injured.
He can create problems for a defense as a wildcat quarterback or trick play guy.
He could take over for McNabb when his contract ends in two years.
Yes there's going to be controversy before too long with people clamoring for Vick to take over for Donovan. I can tell you that he's not ready yet but I don't think this process is going to take too long.
Vick already knows most of the plays, which is a huge advantage. He's already played in the league for years, so expect to see a refined product near the end of the season.
Remember the Eagles didn't get Vick with a first round draft pick, they signed him without giving anything to another team in league.
To all the people who question the Eagles adding Vick from a football perspective, I have one question for you.
Which team in the league has the most quarterback talent in the league?
