I thought there was going to be true competion for the Eagles starting safety position beside Quintin Mikell but I don't think that's going to happen. From what I can see Demps is going to get the job.
I knew things didn't look right when I saw they were going to play Demps and Sean Jones at different positions.
Now after couple of games where the secondary has looked shaky at times, I don't hear any noise about anybody in the secondary. There's nothing stirriing, so Demps will be the guy.
There's no problem with this as long as Demps steps up and plays well, but if he doesn't this is going to be regarded a big mistake.
I like Demps and think he's going to develop into a good football player, but that's not the issue. The issue is, who is the best football player right now.
Does Jones or Demps give you the best chance to win right now?
I understand that the Eagles put more of a premium on pass coverage than stopping the run.
My major question mark on Demps is his consistency and tackling ability.
I still don't know who was at fault, either Demps or cornerback Ellis Hobbs, on the pass to Reggie Wayne last Thursday but the bottomline is you can't afford those kind of mistakes in the secondary.
