I just read something that makes me very concerned about the Michael Vick situation. Tony Dungy will now be taking a hands-off role in the rehabilitation of Michael Vick.
This means he won't be calling Vick and keeping an eye on him. This means he won't be getting in his face and asking him the tough questions.
This means somebody else will need to take that role or Vick could wind up making some bad decisions.
The reason for the change is because of the start of the NFL football season.
Dungy is working as an analyst and commentator on NBC's Football Night in America. He'll be commentating on what's going on in the NFL.
Working with Vick would undermind his credibility, so he's stepping back from his work with the new Eagles quarterback..
I don't like that.
NBC Universal Sports & Olympics chairman Dick Ebersol didn't have a problem with Dungy's work with Vick but now he's expects him to drop it.
"Tony's relationship with Mike really takes a major change now that he's signed with the Eagles," said Ebersol. "He's available for Mike to call and kind of rely on but he's really much more the ward of [Eagles coach] Andy Reid and [Eagles owner] Jeff Lurie and the staff with the Eagles. Tony was primarily a mentor to get him through that transition from prison to his re-entry to football."
I hope Vick is able to stay away from trouble and make good decisions without Dungy looking over his shoulder.
