If I am the Flyers front office, I would definitely call the Senators to see what it would take to get Dany Heatley in a Flyers uniform
I know the Flyers do not have much cap room and the Sens are in even worse shape but an exploratory phone call would be all that it would take. Heatley wants out of Ottawa and the Sens are getting desperate on their end. If this is “the year” as many hockey analysts have put it, why wouldn’t the Flyers take a shot at Heatley?
Who would you give up for Heatley? The Oilers tried to make a play for Heatley but were shut down by his refusal to play in Edmonton because his contract has a no-trade clause. The Oilers reportedly offered center, Andrew Cogliano (22 years old – 38 points in 2008-09), left-winger Dustin Penner (26 – 37 pts) and stay-at-home defenseman Ladislav Smid (23).
The Flyers have $2.157 million in salary cap space for 2009-10. Heatley’s cap hit would be $7.5 million. Obviously, the Flyers would have to give up some major talent to acquire Heatley since he has topped 40+ goals four times in his seven seasons in the NHL.
What would you be willing to give up for Heatley? Here are the players that I would be willing to part with in some way, shape or form…
Gagne – 5.25
Hartnell – 4.2
Carle – 3.438
Jones – 2.75
Parent – .855
Jimmy van Riemsdyk – ?
In a dream world – Gagne/Carle, Gagne/Jones or Hartnell/Carle, Hartnell/Jones for Heatley.
