I just read Bob Brookover’s article on Philly.com about the supposed battle between Sheldon Brown and Ellis Hobbs for the starting right cornerback position opposite Asante Samuel. As far as I’m concerned there is no battle.
Sheldon is head and shoulders better than Hobbs and you could see it every day the Birds were at training camp. I understand a guy like Hobbs who has been a starter for most of his career, wanting to continue starting but he’s not a starter on this football team.
Asante Samuel was great during this training camp but Sheldon might have been better. He came in with an attitude and focused it on his playing. He was the only cornerback who broke even with DeSean Jackson, who was flat out killing all of the other corners.
If Sean McDermott has any trouble telling Hobbs that he is a backup, give me a meeting with Hobbs, some video tape of the training camp workouts and an empty room at the Nova Care Complex and I’ll show him why he shouldn’t be starting ahead of Brown.
For that matter, I don’t think Hobbs is as good as Joselio Hanson.
