On Thursday there will be a wide open battle for the starting safety position next to Quintin Mikell. Finally it seems that the Eagles coaching staff is willing to put Quintin Demps and Sean Jones in a position of ” best man
They need experience, poise and stabilizing on defense, right now to me that means Jones in the starting lineup. He’s played and starred on this level.
The Eagles need sure tackling and some big plays to start this season. If they don’t start season tackling well at the safety position, they’re going to lose that first game to the Panthers.
It’s still going to be important that Demps continues to compete for the starting job even if he doesn’t get right now.
Omar Gaither is needed out there even though he won’t play on Thursday because of knee and ankle injuries but they know they need him in the first game against Carolina.
Joe Mays will start versus the Jets but its seems that Gaither will be the starting middle linebacker when the season starts. In effect Mays played himself out of the job rather than Gaither taking it because the veteran has been hurt recently and not playing or practicing.
