Andy Reid was on 610-WIP earlier tonight with Ike Reese during the WIP Radiothon and he was promoting the Eagles version of the wildcat formation with Michael Vick. He even asked for help in finding a catchy name for it.
“Michael can throw the football and can run the football,” Reid said. “Most of the kids who are running this thing are running backs. Mike can add his own dimension to this.
We will use it in certain situations, depending on the team that we play. It could be every week. It could be whenever we want to do that. It is important that we all get used to it. We will use it … It takes a little adjustment to do that.”
Let me say that I haven’t see anything thus far that impresses me about their version of the formation. Maybe they have something that they haven’t showed us yet but I haven’t seen it.
The formation is especially effective when you run the ball and it gives you an extra blocker. I don’t know what advantage it gives you if you have a quarterback come into the game and play quarterback.
I know the Eagles have some ideas about using it with Vick in the red zone but I haven’t seen it. I’ll have to wait until they use something in a game that impresses me. I’ll let you know when they do.
So far this has all been much to do about nothing.
