There’s no question that tonight is a big game for Michael Vick but really it’s a bigger game for Kevin Kolb. Vick is going to play this year whether he plays well or not tonight. The same can’t be said for Kevin.
In all likelihood, tonight’s game will be the only one he starts all year long.
People around the league saw what happened in that Baltimore game a year ago. Regardless of whether it was fair or not, they’ve seen Ed Reed return the touchdown a thousand times.
When you mention Kevin Kolb, that’s what they remember. He could change that a bit tonight for the better.
Likewise he could do some major damage to his career if he doesn’t put up a good showing.
I know he won’t be playing against New York’s number one defense so he won’t get full credit if he lights them up. Still he’d better do it or he could find himself entrenched in a backup role.
There will be a lot of eyes on this game and I think he needs to turn some heads because I don’t see him playing in Philadelphia for a while.
If the Eagles don’t extend McNabb’s contract next year, I think Vick will be the guy to take over. This isn’t fact just my opinion.
GM’s and head coaches around the league know that the Eagles have two former Pro Bowl quarterbacks and Kolb isn’t one of them. Andy Reid has told him he’s the number two quarterback on the team, but the truth is he’s number three as soon as Vick in fully reinstated.
Every time Kolb gets behind center he must excel. People ask me how the Eagles feel about him and all I can respond with is a question.
Would they have brought Michael Vick in here if they were in love with Kolb?
He’s got to take what’s there and not try to force things. This isn’t practice. He must read what the defense is presenting him and take what they give him.
Kolb can’t start out forcing the issue or bad things will happen.
I don’t think Kevin Kolb can make his career tonight but I do think he can do a good job of sabotaging it, if he plays poorly.
You know what they say about putting things on tape nowadays. Once you put it on there you can’t get rid of it.
