Pats Trade Richard Seymour To The Raiders

Richard SeymourIn an amazing move the New England Patriots have traded All-Pro defensive lineman Richard Seymour to the Oakland Raiders.  Seymour helped the Pats win three Super Bowl championships and he went to 5 consecutive Pro Bowls.

Have you ever gotten a gift from somebody whom you don’t trust and you have a feeling that something is wrong with the gift.  That’s the way I feel about this move.  Something has to be wrong with Seymour or Bill Belichick wouldn’t have made the deal.

The pick from the Raiders will likely be a very good one and you do have a possible uncapped year coming up with the collective bargaining agreement in flux.

The Oakland Raiders are fools. They are no where near being ready to make a run at the playoffs.  Why would they want to go after a 29-year old like Seymour who is at the top of his career?  The guy isn’t going to put them in the playoffs.

This makes no sense for the Raiders and I’m not even surprised.

Belichick said this move is in the best interest of his football team.

“Any transaction we make is with the goal of what is best for our
team and, as difficult as it is to part ways with a player of Richard’s
stature, many factors were taken into account when we considered this
trade,” Belichick said.

“As an organization, we feel the
trade with Oakland brings sufficient value and is in the long-term
interest of the club,” he added. “We are extremely grateful for the
huge impact Richard’s elite level of performance had on our success and
we wish him the very best during the rest of his career.”
