The first pick was thrown behind Steve Smith. Smith reached for it but Macho Harris was in close pursuit and it hit off Smith’s hands. Sheldon Brown got control of it with one hand, pulled it in and started the parade of turnovers which would never end.
The Birds picked off five passes in total, which is the most by a Birds defense since September 30, 1996 against the Cowboys.
The six takeaways are the most since a battle against St. Louis in January of 2000.
On the second interception he was covering Smith again but was able to subtlely pull himself around in front of him as he was eyeballing Jake Delhomme, who should have thrown the ball further outside where only Smith could have caught it.
Brown timed his move in front of Smith, then he went up and picked off the ball.
Brown shined today in spite of the way the Eagles had responded to his request for a new contract. Brown showed that he’s a true professional with the outstanding performance today.
He made clear he wasn’t happy about the Birds refusing to either trade him or give him a new deal but he has remained to committed to being the best football player he can be.
This wasn’t easy to do when you consider his situation. He saw his former partner at the Eagles cornerback position, Lito Sheppard get a new contract and a $10 million dollar signing bonus for laying down on the job.
Sheppard stole money from the Eagles by basically refusing to commit himself to being the best football player he could be and playing as hard every time he stepped on the field.
This time the good won out.
Brown did the right thing even though everybody knew he deserved more money.
