As you ask questions about what’s going to happen if Donovan McNabb misses the next couple of games, take into account that Andy Reid’s love of Kevin Kolb is lukewarm, but his love for Michael Vick is running hot.
We’re going to see a lot of Vick in week three, I guarantee it. Listen to the ringing endorsement Reid gave of Kolb, yesterday.
“I’ve got to trust in Kevin to do the job, Reid said in his post game news conference, the unfortunate with number two guys is that they don’t get a lot of practice reps during the week. If he gets the chance to get some reps, I think you’ll see a little more production”.
That’s not a ringing endorsement of Kolb. Does that sound like he believes in Kolb? It sounds more like he’s in a position that he can’t do anything about.
When it comes to Michael Vick though, everything he says is glowing.
In much the same way a man becomes enanamored by a beautiful woman from a far and can’t get her out of his mind, I’m hearing from more and more sources about the way Reid’s love of Vick.
I hear he is smitten with his speed, athleticism, throwing arm and talent. Remember that his breathtaking skills caused him to be the number one pick in the draft.
I hear that this didnt just start this off season as Vick was getting ready to be released from prison, I’m finding out that Reid had his eye on Vick long before then.
As he was preparing for Eagle opponents, he saw Vick working against some of those same teams and he was operating out of the west coast offense.
I’m sure his jaw dropped like the rest of America as we watched him outrun entire defenses, then drop back into the pocket and launch a rocket for sixty yards in the air with just a flick of his wrist.
Reid looked at tapes of him and wondered what he could become with the proper coaching. I’m convinced that this exercise is the main thing that’s going on with at the Eagles quarterback position next to trying to win all the football games they can.
When week three gets here, remember what I said about how much Reid is in love with Vicik.
