Sean McDermott said he regretted not being aggressive enough last week when the New Orleans Saints were dismantling his defense. He didn’t make that mistake today against a woeful Kansas City Chiefs offense.
The Eagles had blitzers coming up and middle and coming off the corner. They pouinded Chiefs quarterback Matt Cassell and running back Larry Johnson and it didn’t seem like Kansas City had a counter punch.
Juqua Parker got to Cassel early after he avoided the pass rush of Trent Cole. They hurried him and didn’t even give him much of a chance to set his feet and throw the football.
Everybody got involved with putting pressure on Cassel. The defensive ends kept the pressure coming, then we got some good pass pressure from Brodrick Bunkley and Mike Pattterson.
A few times it seemed that the linebackers and defensive tackles were lining up in the middle of the Chiefs offensive backfield.
They proved again that you can’t run or throw the football if you can’t block your opponent’s tackles.
You’ve also got to give credit to the entire Eagles secondary for a solid effort.
Quintin Mikell was especially effective and involved in stopping the pass and the run. Mikell is one of the better tacklers in the league.
Things started out the Eagles way early in the day when I saw that the Chiefs best offensive weapon Dwayne Bowe was deactivated. Without the big and physical Bowe, the Chiefs had no where to go with the football.
