My thoughts Eagles/Chiefs

It’s tough to judge how good the Eagles are right now or how good they can be as we move forward.¬† The Kansas City Chiefs are a pretty awful team and the Eagles absolutely clobbered them.¬†

I kind of wonder the same thing I thought after the Eagles beat the Panthers.¬† Are the Eagles this good?¬† Or are the Chiefs this bad?¬† Well, all you can ever do is beat the team you are scheduled to play that Sunday and the Eagles did just that.¬† They put a good ol’ fashioned on a lesser opponent.¬† So let’s look at the game:

What I liked…

-I have to give Kevin Kolb credit.¬† The Chiefs may be awful, but Kolb carved them up and put the game out of reach relatively early.¬† The first player in NFL history to throw for 300+ yards in his first two starts.¬† That’s pretty impressive.¬† I don’t we can openly wonder whether Kolb can play anymore.¬† Kolb can clearly play.¬† I’d personally like to see how reacts when it’s 17-17 in the fourth quarter against the Giants, but that’s for another day.

-Brent Celek is a 100% legit starting tight end.¬† He does a great job of getting open and making sure he catches the ball.¬† Then he becomes quite a load to bring to the ground.¬† If teams aren’t accounting for him each week, then they really need to re-think what they are doing.¬† Celek can hurt you.

-I would like to give some credit to the offensive line.  Not only are there a bunch of backups in there, but they are backups that are learning to play together.  This area of the team could have been a ginormous problem at this point in the season.

-I’m a Broderick Bunkley fan.¬†

-The defense as a whole did a great job of giving the Chiefs nothing.  Their offense was abysmal.

-The legend of DeSean Jackson continue.  I was talking about wide receivers last night with a friend of mine and we were putting them in different tiers.  I believe Andre Johnson, Calvin Johnson and Larry Fitzgerald are in the super elite top tier.  But I definitely think Jackson is now in that second tier in the NFL.  He is a true joy to watch on the field.  But, more no him later.

-David Akers just goes about his business quietly.  Just does his job.

…and not so much…

-For those of you that got to go the game, you are lucky.¬† Not because you got to attend a live NFL football game, but because it meant you didn’t have to listen to Solomon Wilcots on the broadcast.¬† I try to be very fair with announcers.¬† It is simply not possible to fill up an entire game with super intelligent thoughts.¬† Ain’t happening.¬† Every announcer at some point will say something pointless, because you just have to.¬† But it seems like everything that came out of Wilcots’ mouth was unbelievably uninformative.¬† I can’t stand when a color analyst just puts into words what I am already watching on the video replay.¬† “See he rolls out to the right and doesn’t see anything so he just throws it in the ground.”¬† THANKS for that.¬† I can see that with my own two eyes.¬† How about offering some insight on something that maybe I didn’t see or know?¬† Again, I know sometimes that’s all the analysis there is, but it seemed like it was every play.¬†

-Larry Johnson really looks like he wants to play football, huh?

-DeSean, what are you doing?¬† Seriously?¬† You already have a groin injury, so let’s take a flying, flipping leap into the end zone.¬† That makes a ton of sense.

-I know it’s early.¬† Way too early to be making any judgements.¬† But….I’m not sure I see it with Maclin.¬†

-Speaking of which, can we stop sending him to return punts?  He is NOT a punt returner.

-And why was DeSean in the game to return punts with the game already out of reach?¬† I’m thinking they just told him to stand there and not get near the ball.¬† He let about three in a row bounce right by.¬† If that’s the case then I have no problem there.

-The Chiefs couldn’t do anything right and when they did, it was called back for a penalty.¬† I feel bad for Kansas City fans, that is going to be a tough team to watch this year.¬†

-I’m never thrilled when I see Ellis Hobbs in coverage.¬† There was probably a good reason the Patriots were willing to hand him over.¬†
