Some of this is old but I figured I would weigh in on all the latest issues.
Surprises
Randy Jones was officially waived, cleared waivers and will be assigned to the minors.  Good riddance, Jones was just eating away at the cap and would be a good sixth or seventh defenseman if he didn’t make so much.  He is a cap casualty, much like Denis Gauthier was a couple of years back.  I thought the Flyers should have done this last year and I am surprised that they made this move now but I am extremely happy with it.
Danny Syvret makes the club as the sixth defenseman.  Because Jones was waived and Tollefson was hampered by injuries, Syvret moves into the six-man unit.  I like Tollefson’s physical play and Syvret is known for his offensive capabilities.  Keep an eye on this one; I am sure there will be plenty of flip-flopping as the season progresses.
Carle paired with Pronger.  Some would question why this is such a surprise but I personally don’t think this pairing will last.  Don’t get me wrong, I hope it does and Carle could benefit by playing next to Pronger.  I will assume the Flyers coaching staff knows a little bit more than me but I just don’t see the fixation with Matt Carle.  I know he is a good skater, he can jump in the zone and supposedly he makes a great first pass but he makes dumb, little mistakes.  How many defenseman have you seen completely whiff on the puck every game?  I can’t remember one.  Some guys are horrific passers but they at least make contact.  I can hear Jimmy Jackson’s voice in my head, “Carle at the point, he winds and… he misses the puck, over the blue line and the Penguins have successfully killed another Flyer’s powerplay.”
Now that I have cleared the air with Matt Carle, I will make the suggestion that we really shouldn’t make a big deal out of the line combinations.  This is hockey and line combos never last.
