You may or may not have noticed that the Eagles didn’t play on Sunday.¬† It’s true, they didn’t.¬† But that doesn’t mean that their status within the NFC East wasn’t affected, so here are some thoughts on what went down today.
-Eli Manning suffered a bruised heel and exited the Giants win over the Chiefs after one more play (a 54-yard TD to Hakeem Nicks).¬† Keep an eye on this.¬† It doesn’t seem to be a huge deal, but if it’s something that lingers, it could be problems down the road.
-Speaking of Nicks, everyone should be closely monitoring this WR’s progress.¬† The Giants took him in the first round this year, some 10 picks lower than the Eagles selected Jeremy Maclin.¬† I’ll get killed for saying this, but so far he’s shown more than Maclin and he missed a bunch of games with injury.
-Tony Romo looked absolutely dreadful against the Broncos in their 17-10 loss.
-The Cowboys offensive line looked absolutely dreadful against the Broncos in their 17-10 loss.  They could not block Elvis Dumervil and when they did, they were cheating.  There was a ton of pressure and yellow flags on Sunday.  When did the Broncos get a halfway decent defense??
-Roy Williams should be thanking Romo.¬† Thanking him for that hospital ball that got him a shot to the chest late in the game.¬† I don’t know how serious it is, but he was on the sideline for the Cowboys final drive.
-Tashard Choice is a nice player.
-I’m not a huge fan of Mike Jenkins, the Cowboys cornerback and first-round pick in 2008.
-How bad are the Redskins?¬† First things first, the will play the Eagles tough because they always do.¬† But they are borderline disgraceful.¬† I can’t say they are 100% garbage because there are plenty of teams in the NFL that legitmately are.¬† The Browns, Raiders, Chiefs, Rams and Bucs come to mind.¬† But the Redskins are bad in a Hasselbeck-less Seahawks kind of way.¬† A three-point win over the Bucs?¬† At home?¬† Seriously?¬† Sheesh.
-If I’m Dan Snyder, I can’t be thrilled about Jim Zorn as my head coach.¬† Or my aging offensive line.¬† Or my banged-up and old Clinton Portis.¬† Or my pedestrian wide receivers.¬† Or my awful three second-round picks from 2008.¬† Or Vinny Cerato.¬† Or my linebackers.¬† The list goes on.¬† This is why owners should keep their hands out of team business.
-The Giants need to hope that Eli isn’t hurt too badly, they have a nice lead on the division so far.¬† At 4-0, they are looking down on the 2-1 Eagles, 2-2 Cowboys, and awful 2-2 Redskins.
-Anyone else ready to say the Redskins are toast?  I am.  They beat the Rams and Bucs by a combined five points.  Job well done!  The Eagles can not stumble against these guys in the next few weeks.
