Donovan McNabb was sharp in his comeback against the Tampa Bay Bucs. He made some nice throws and got into the flow of the game immediately.
McNabb’s numbers said it all. He was 15-21 for 264 yards, three touchdowns and a nearly perfect 157.2 quarterback rating.
I was shocked when he took off on a scramble on the first play of the game. I wasn’t crazy about that decision he did make a good choice of getting all the yardage he could get then escaping out of bounds.
He took off again later in the game for valuable yardage and wisely avoided any contact but I thought he made a mistake on one play when he held the ball and got roughed up.
The first touchdown throw of the game to Jeremy Maclin was set up by McNabb moving in the pocket to buy time. He then threw a lazer to the rookie who made a nice catch.
The play call to pass to Leonard Weaver was a great call by Andy Reid and Marty Mornhinweg. Weaver will make some big plays for the Birds when defenses are intently trying to stop everybody else and he gets the linebacker one-on-one with no help.
The third touchdown pass he made to Maclin wasa matter of the rookie showing his great speed and McNabb showing some confidence in him. Maclin split double coverage and outran the safety who was supposed to be playing him deep.
I loved the way McNabb put it up and threw it to a place where Maclin was going to catch it or nobody was.
Five didn’t seem like he had missed a beat after not playing for three weeks, two games and the bye.
This is what McNabb does best, he throws the deep ball very well because of his strong arm.
It was a wasted commodity for too long here in Philly because didn’t have the type of deep speed necessary to get deep consistently. The Raiders’ defensive coordinator isn’t going to get any sleep this week.
It’s astonishing the amount of offensvie weapons the Eagles have assembled on their football team.
I know McNabb had to be licking his chops to get back out there.
