David Akers made three of the five field goals that he attempted but the Eagles needed him to be perfect last Sunday and he wasn’t.
Five field goals of 40 yards or more is a lot to ask for, still it was disappointing. Special teams coach Ted Daisher said Akers knows what he did wrong on the two misses.
“We tried five field goals against Oakland and missed two of them. I think the first one slid to the left just a little bit, he might have overcompensated going to his right. You want to make every kick and I know David does.”
The Eagles need Akers to have a big year because I think they’re going to be fighting for their playoff lives in some close games down the stretch.
Akers was once placed amongst the best in the league, I don’t know if you can say that now.
He needs to help us forget that awful NFL Championship game. Remember, he missed an extra point. Yes, he missed an extra point in an NFC Championship game.
I know h e’s a great guy but it’t not about being a great guy, it’s about being productive.
