Redskins notes

Here are some updates on the Washington Redskins for this week’s Monday night matchup against the Eagles.

-As I’m sure you heard, left tackle Chris Samuels is expected to retire after suffering a neck injury a couple weeks ago.¬† Doctors reportedly told him that he risks paralysis if he plays again.¬† Yeah, that’d probably get me to quit too.¬† They are expected to put him on injured reserve during their Week 8 bye.¬† Jim Zorn said he wants the extra roster spot.¬†

-The Skins signed Levi Jones, but so what?¬† Their o-line is in serious, serious trouble.¬† That dripping sound you hear is Trent Cole’s drool hitting the floor.¬† Jones was a first-round pick in 2002 of the Bengals but that was a long time ago.¬†

-Redskins GM Vinny Cerrato gave Jim Zorn a full endorsement this week.¬† “Let me start by making a few things very perfectly clear,” Cerrato said. “Jim Zorn is the head coach of the Washington Redskins and will be for the rest of this season, and hopefully into the future.”¬† What a disgrace it is down there.¬† An awful GM giving an endorsement to a Peter Principle head coach.¬†

-Expect Jason Campbell to be on a short leash against the Eagles.¬† If he makes mistakes early, it’s not going to be long before Todd Collins comes in.

-Clinton Portis returned to practice Saturday (ankle), and is expected to play Monday night.

-Albert Haynesworth isn’t practicing and is questionable with a sprained ankle.¬† Talk about the difference between night and day for a defense.¬† If for some reason he doesn’t play, that’s a huge advantage for the Eagles.

-DT Cornelius Griffin is expected to start with a sprained left elbow.

-Devin Thomas will remain the team’s starting wide receiver opposite Santana Moss.¬† Thomas replaced Malcolm Kelly in the lineup and rewarded his coaches’ decision by delivering zero catches last week.

-I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again:¬† It’s looking like the Redskins thoroughly wasted all three second-round picks from 2008.¬† Kelly is always dealing with injuries.¬† Thomas has work ethic issues and doesn’t really know the playbook.¬† Fred Davis is…..well, I wouldn’t know, I’ve never seen him on the field.¬†
