The Eagles offensive tackles have a major battle ahead this weekend when they face the defensive line of the New York Giants.
The situation if fairly simple, if the offensive line can give Donovan McNabb time to set up and locate his receivers, he should be able to have a big day throwing the ball against the Giants.
The secondary they’re facing this week is no where near as good as the Redskins were on Monday night.
The Birds have some great matchups to take advantage of, but it won’t matter if they can’t give McNabb any time.
The Giants have lost their last two games, so you can believe that their defensive line will be energized.
Most of the pass rush pressure will come from New York’s defensive ends.
Eagles right tackle Winston Justice will have his work cut out for him as he blocks Pro Bowl defensive end Justin Tuck. Tuck is big, powerful and he gets in a bad mood around game time.
Of course the Giants were the team that sacked McNabb 12 times a few years ago and Justice was victimized six times alone.
He says he won’t let that memory bother him but you can believe he will be reminded of it by the Giants.
I want to see Justice keep his knee bent and stay low so he doesn’t let Tuck get leverage underneath him.
On the other side Jason Peters will be blocking Osi Umenyiora but Osi’s not all the way back from the knee injury he had a year ago.
Tuck is the guy who the Birds had better concentrate on because he can take this game over.
The former Notre Dame standout is a power rusher while Umenyiora is a speed rusher but remember he doesn’t have all of his speed back, yet.
The Birds should be quicker to give Justice help as opposed to giving Peters help.
If Jason maintains the proper technique, he should be able to handle the not quite 100% Umenyiora.
The Eagles need to also be ready for Matthias Kiwanuka. He will come off the bench to give the two starters a break.
