It’s time for rookie running back LeSean McCoy to step up his game a few notches.
McCoy may have to start versus the Giants, if veteran Brian Westbrook can’t make back from a concussion.
He must play with great technique, secure the ball every time he runs with it and know his assignments like the back of his hand when the Eagles play New York on Sunday.
Eagles offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg said the youngster has been doing a nice job so far, but he’s never been through what he’s going to experience this Sunday.
This is going to be a tough, physical and hard fought NFC East game between two teams who want to win the division.
When the young fella steps up to pcik up a linebacker or tries to chip one of those big defensive linemen he will get hit as hard or harder than he’s ever been thumped in his life.
It will also be a tough challenge for him mentally because you know the Giants are going to test his ability to decipher who to pick up on complicated and late-coming blitzes.
I see the Giants are making a point of sending their linebackers after they give the backs a chance to relax and determine they’re not coming.
Most importantly McCoy must hang onto the football when he carries it. I want to see him hold it more securely because you can believe the Giants will try to strip it out of his hands.
The Birds can’t afford to give the Giants anything easy.
