Which way will the script go? Will the 2009 Phillies follow their 1983 “Wheeze Kids” counterparts, who won the first game of that World Series,
but then lost four straight to the Orioles, including the final three games in Philadelphia?
Or perhaps the 2009 Phillies will follow the 1993 Phillies, which were down 3 games to 1 when ace Curt Schilling pulled them back to a 3-2 deficit with a great pitching performance in Game 5 (the way fans are hoping Cliff Lee will do tonight), only to fall in Game 6 to the Blue Jays.
Or will this 2009 squad write their own story, one with a totally different ending?
If there’s one team that has the character to not be deterred by a 3-1 deficit, it’s this year’s Phillies. The Yankees’ talent is unmistakable and may be too much to overcome, but it would not shock me at all if the Phillies find a way to at least push this Series to a full seven games, and perhaps pull it out.
