I know that was a painful loss to the Yankees last night, but we’re watching some good baseball in these World Series.
I’ve got to give both teams credit for playing some heart-stopping, heart-pounding baseball.
Admit it, what happened last night, we knew was headed our way all during the season.
We saw Brad Lidge blow save after save and we said to ourselves, this is going to be our undoing. I thought it and hoped that things would change but ultimately they didn’t.
It was just like a movie. You know how they take you right up to the last second in order to make it more dramatic.
Lidge had two outs with the bases empty and two strikes on Johnny Damon. He nearly struck him out, but Damon managed to get a piece of the Lidge slider and it trickled out of Carlos Ruiz’s glove.
He got the slap single to left, then stole two bases because he had thought through the over shift situation and the Phils hadn’t. Damon was prepared and Phils were not.
Who would have ever seen that game coming down to a stolen base against a over shifted defense.
And in another movie script, A-Rod doubled to left to drive in the winning run because Damon’s presence on third stopped Lidge from throwing his slider because he didnt want to risk a wild pitch.
Rodriguez jumped on a fastball, which isn’t Lidge’s best pitch.
I’ve got to take my hat off to Chase Utley for the way he has taken C.C. Sabathia apart. He has been dialed in on Sabathia throughout this series.
