We know what the Phils bats can do but can their pitching hang in there and help them finish strong.
We do know the game six starter will be Pedro Martinez and if he pitches like he did in game two, the Phils will be in good shape.
There’s no telling how long he’ll be able to go but they’re going to need all hands on deck coming out of the bullpen.
Charlie Manuel will have to be creative and do like he’s done all year long, make decisions based on his “gut”. There’s no workbook with the formula of how to get the job done but he’s got to look guys in the eye and go with whoever he thinks can do the job.
One of the big questions facing Manuel if they find a way to win game six, is who is going to the be the starter for game seven.
Cole Hamels was thought to be the guy when the series started but who knows where his head is nowadays. He hasn’t ptiched well throughout the post season.
Hamels is 1-2 and has a 7.58 ERA. Don’t forget he told reporters who hoped it was all over.
If fact he got into a shouting and shoving match with fellow pitcher Brad Myers after Myers mocked him for saying he wished it was all over. Myers was rumored to have said, “What are you doing here? I thought you quit.
Hamels says he wants to be the starter in game seven.
“Of course I want the ball in Game 7,” Hamels said. “It’s something you dream about as a kid. Even though I haven’t had the results, I’m geared up to do it.”
Last night’s starter Cliff Lee made it very clear after the game that he’s ready and willing.
“I’ll pitch whenever they want me to pitch,” Lee said after the game. “That’s about as clear as I can say it. I’m ready whenever. I don’t really get that sore, so I’ll be ready to pitch whenever they want me to. If it’s going to help the team win, I’m in.”
So you’re all experts, what should Charlie do.
