Reid Singles Out McNabb’s Leadership

McNabb on the run Eagles head coach Andy Reid made it a point to single out how important Donovan McNabb’s leadership has been to the football team.

I don’t agree with making a big deal out of veteran leadership.  As far as I’m concerned, the key to veteran leadership is done when veteran players lead the way by playing well.

Their words are powerful when they kicking butt and taking names.  McNabb’s leadership has been strong the last couple of weeks because he’s led the team to victory.

I’m sure the younger players look to him to be a steadying force.  He has to correct their mistakes, but give them encouragement to improve and work hard.

Reid explained how the absence of Brian Dawkins, Tra Thomas, Jon Runyan and other veterans has made McNabb’s leadership more important.  Reid talked about how the other players look to him for direction, especially after that Oakland Raiders game.

Mcnabb with ball on the run McNabb said he made it a point to talk to the team after that lost to the Raiders and even more importantly he said he made sure he corrected his own mistakes.

Number Five said he likes to lead by example.  He knows that inspirational words without quality play are hollow.

The veteran quarterback said his younger teammates get excited when he runs with the ball but he doesn’t plan on making a habit of that.

The key with McNabb and this football team will be consistency.

On Sunday against the Cowboys, they must make Dallas pay when they blitz.  They’re going to be one on one with the Eagles receivers when they try to blitz and McNabb and company must take advantage of those situations with big plays.
