“It’s just not even close,” Williams said. “It’s not even funny. Not even close.”
But, despite his poor play and general ineffectiveness, he says he’s the team’s number one wide receiver.
“I’m the No. 1 receiver,” Williams said. “But things are just going No. 2’s way.”
If you say so, Roy.
“He gets the ball thrown correctly his way,” Williams said of teammate Miles Austin, who has been devastating the last few weeks. “I’m stretching and falling and doing everything. Everybody [else] who’s been here’s balls are there. Our footballs [from Romo to Williams] are everywhere right now.”
So it’s not really your fault that you are stinking up the joint?
First, I have to man up and concede something to G.¬† We were on WIP months ago during the offseason and the topic of Roy Williams came up.¬† G. was not a huge fan even then.¬† I said that’d he was better than people think and that he was an above average receiver who would have a nice year now that he was the guy.¬† Well, I was wrong.¬† I lost that one and I won’t even wait for the year to end to evaluate it.¬† I can’t stand that so many sports people make predictions and no one ever revisits them to see if they were right or not.¬† So I try to make a point of calling myself out when I’m wrong.¬†
But anyway, Roy’s problem isn’t his talent.¬† He’s got good size and speed.¬† But he seems to have a bad attitude.¬† Remember him quitting on those routes against the Eagles in the last regular season game?¬† He definitely seems to have some quit in him.¬†
Michael Irvin said on his radio show recently that he was in training camp offering Williams and Austin some tips on playing the wide receiver position.¬† He said that Austin took to the pointers very well….but Roy didn’t.¬† I’m not a huge fan of Irvin in general, but if he was offering tips on how to play the position, I think I’d listen.
We’ll see how it goes this week against the Eagles secondary, but as of now, Jerry Jones looked like he thoroughly threw away a first-round pick.¬†
