Could you imagine a starting Phils rotation which included Cliff Lee and Roy Halladay?
Philly.com is reporting that there’s a chance it could happen here in Philadelphia for the Phillies.
According to them, the Phillies are trying to acquire Halladay.
Give the Phils credit for being in a championship mindset.
Of course we all remember the talk about the Phillies trading for Halladay last season before the stretch run. He would give them another solid starter along with Lee.
Publicly, Phillie GM Ruben Amaro Jr. said they’re looking for help at third base, in the bullpen, and on the bench. He didn’t mention going after help in the starting rotation.
They have a quote from a MLB front office man, who said, “Philadelphia is into winning now, and Halladay fits that.”
Bringing in Halladay would mean the Phils are willing to greatly increase their team’s salaryies because Halladay makes $15.75 million a year.
There’s not question that the Phils would be favorites to go back to the World Series were they to acquire Halladay.
I’ve heard rumors that the Phillies are willing to part ways with embattled young starter Cole Hamels.
Of course well all know Hamels story. He was the NLCS MVP a year ago and also the World Series MVP, but things went south for him during the regular season and in the post season.
If Hamels had been on his game during the World Series, I think the Phils could have beaten the Yankees.
The Phillies know that it always comes down to pitching.
Still letting go a young talent like Hamels wouldn’t be an easy move.
