The Eagles pass defense has their work cut out for them this week.
Defensive coodinator Sean McDermott sounding good in saying about how they expect whomever they send in there to play cornerback to play at a high level. Yeah and I expect my taxes to go down as well.
They’re heading to San Diego with the job of stopping one of the best pass offenses in the NFL with backup cornerbacks.
Sure the Eagles have their two best cornerbacks out there at the starting cornerback positions, but there’s no rule to prevent the Chargers from sending in three or four wide receivers which will make the Birds send in new nickel back Dmitri Patterson and dime back Jack Ikegwuounu.
The neck injury to Ellis Hobbs and the four-game suspension handed down to Joselio Hanson has put the Eagles secondary in a precarious situations.
They would have trouble stopping the Chargers pass attack even if Hobbs and Hanson were available.
They’ll need to work on their vertical jump because San Diego’s three top receivers are all 6’4″ and taller.
All I can see is a lot of jump ball passes and interference penalties.
This is going to be a tough job for the Birds.
The only way I see them stopping the Chargers will be because of Trent Cole, Juqua Parker, Jason Babin and Chris Clemmons.
They’ve got to get pressure on San Diego quarterback Phillip Rivers and prevent him from throwing the ball accurately.
Rivers who has developed into one of the best quarterback in the league is probably licking his chops to go after some of the inexperienced players the Eagles will be sending out there.
The Eagles offense must be ready to score some points.
