The Eagles will be taking the trip out to San Diego on a big 747 which has two decks of seating.
The seats are big and plush. Some of them lay back into a bed and they even will massage you if you want them to.
The plane is top of the line and they’ll be eating great food from the time they get on the flight until the time they step off of it.
Some beautiful flight attendants will be serving them great food the entire flight.
They’ll be leaving the lousy weather here in Philly and flying nearly six hours to the beautiful weather of San Diego.
When they get off the plane, they’ll be met by the buses and whisked over to the five-star hotel.
The time they arrive there, they’ll be wined and dined.
The sun will be shining. The palm trees will be shaking in the breeze.
They’ll be some pretty, young things waiting in the hotel lobby and they’ll be wearing next to nothing.
Many of these young players are living better right now than they have ever lived in all of their lives. It can be very distracting.
It will feel like a vacation, but it’s not a vacation it’s a work trip. They can’t let the environment get them to relax and lose their focus.
This team must have the maturity to realize it’s a work trip and therefore they must discipline their minds if they want ot play well.
Rookies are especially vulnerable to the distractions. They guys need to stay into the work trip mentality.
It takes a strong mental makeup to stay disciplined mentally even though it feels like a vacation.
If I were Andy Reid, I would come into the meeting room tonight and start screaming at them and talking about how bad they played in Oakland. You can tell by the way this team played in the Oakland game that they went out there and got into a vacation mindset.
I would put on the end of the Oakland game and let them relive how bad they felt to lose to the Raiders.
He needs to restrcit their freedome and make them stay near the hotel and not let them go very far away from it. He should have meetings all day and night until game time, so that they can’t float off into a tourist’s mentality in between now and Sunday.
East coast teams can lose their edge, sharpness and attention to detail, if they fly west and get relaxed and into a vaction mode. Again I must bring you back to that Oakland Raiders game.
They can’t repeat that mistake.
Reid knows the situation, so he must monitor his football team and force them to stay focused on playing the Chargers.
