This Is The Week For The Birds To Run The Football

McCoy on the runIf ever there was a week that the Eagles need to run the football, it’s this week against the Chargers.

I don’t think San Diego could stop the Eagles from running it, if they wanted to and I don’t think the Eagles will be able to stop the passing game of the Chargers.

San Diego used to be nearly impossible to run the ball on but that has changed dramatically.  You can run the ball against them all you want this year because their Pro Bowl nose tackle Jamaal Williams tore a tricep muscle and had season-ending surgery.

With Williams out of there the Eagles could run the ball quite well against the Chargers’ defense, wear them down and put a lot of points on the board.

That would mean doing something different from what they really like to do.

Running the ball would allow them to keep the ball out of the hands of San Diego’s potent pass offense.  The Eagles don’t match up well against an offense with three 6’4″ and above receivers.

Jamal Williams All Phillip Rivers has to do it throw the ball up high and his guys will probably come down with it.

Running the ball and keeping it away from the Chargers should be the game plan this weekend but I don’t know if the Eagles are willing to make that change.

Brian Westbrook looks healthy and young LeSean McCoy has shown he can get the job done, as well, but I don’t know that Reid would make that adjustment.
