Top Three Reasons For The Eagles Red Zone Problems

Buckley gets stopped at the goalline It’s the same old thing with the Birds, they can move the ball down the field but they can’t put it in the red zone.

First of all, I don’t think playcalling is the problem.  The Birds have tried to run the football and they’ve tried to throw the football and neither has worked, so playcalling isn’t really the problem.

They haven’t been able to execute in the redzone regardless of the plays that have been called.

The number one problem is that the Eagles don’t have a strong running game.  The offensive line is the biggest cause of the problem.  They don’t fire out and get any push at all at the point of attack.

And when I say not push at the point of attack, i’m talking about zero push.  Many times they’re push is negative because they get pushed into the backfield.  They’re much too soft.

This is more of a mindset than anything else because these same guys have been able to run block.  I don’t think the Eagles demand that their offensive linemen run block and that’s why they’re not consistent in doing it.

The other reasons for their problems in the red zone involve the passing game.

The next reason is the fact that Donovan McNabb isn’t a consistently accurate passer.  That’s important at every area of the football field but it’s very important in the red zone where you don’t have as much room for error.

Buckley gets stopped at the goalline McNabb is reluctant to throw the ball in tight areas and risk an interception.

Finally, the Birds don’t have a big physical receiver who manhandle defenders and outjump them for the ball.
