Eddie Jordan Questions His Players’ Hearts

Grizzly dunks on the SixersDid anybody notice the way Sixers coach Eddie Jordan trashed his players after they lost to the Grizzlies last night at the Wachovia Center?

The Sixers were pushed around on the boards by Memphis and outrebounded 48-28.

Jordan unleashed on them after the game and questioned their hearts and toughness.

“It’s an old saying: ‘If you don’t bite as puppies, you’re not going to bite as dogs,’ ” Jordan said. “And if you didn’t rebound as a young man or teenager, you aren’t going to rebound when it’s time to be a man. We just don’t have those type of guys right now.”

This is very tough talk for a coach who has only been coaching his team for a short period of time.  It’s an indictment of the general manager and Jordan’s boss, Ed Stefanski.

Grizzly dunks on the SixersJordan is saying that Stefanski did a lousy job of selecting players.  It’s going to be interesting to see how

In addition, Jordan has never won anything as a coach.  I wonder how the guys on the team are going to react to this type of statement.

That line that Jordan used was the same line that Hugh Douglas used on Winston Justice when people asked him whether Justice was every going to develop into a good offensive tackle.

Do you think Jordan should have gone off on them that strongly so early?  I think early in the season you should tear into your players privately.  If they don’t respond then you go public on therm.

If you go public early like Jordan chose to do, now you don’t have it as a threat to hang over their heads.  You only option after going publicly is to release players.

If he hadn’t said anything publicly, he would be able to tell them that this is between you guys and me, but I’m going to have to call you out publicly if you don’t step it up.
