The Case For Keeping Donovan McNabb Around

McNabb in the pocketThe argument to continue the era of Donovan McNabb was seen last night, plain and clear in Chicago.

McNabb completed five of six passes on the winning drive to put the team in position for LeSean McCoy’s game winning ten-yard touchdown run.

He threw a 13-yard touchdown pass to Jason Avant and 48-yard pass to DeSean Jackson and had a 101 quarterback rating during the game.

Those who argue that McNabb doesn’t come through in the clutch, make their argument convincing, by ignoring all the games that he has led to this team to victory in, in order to get to five NFC Championship games.

Nobody gives out passes to play in those championship games.  You have to win to be there.

I have been critical of McNabb’s inability to lead this team to a Super Bowl championship and his throwing inaccuracy, but I also give him credit for stepping up year after year to get the team to those five championship games.

jackson comes down with touchdown pass I know you have to do a lot of winning in order to get to those games.

Fans and media persons who call McNabb a choke artist, do so by ignoring all the big games during the regular season and playoffs, which McNabb has led the team to victories.

When it comes to winning in his era, he’s third behind only Brady and Manning.

He really has been a much better playoff quarterback than Manning and if you don’t believe me look up the stats and checkout their playoff records.

For instance, the critics choose to ignore the great playoff games he had a year ago, in order to beat the Vikings and the great game he had to beat the Giants.

They also ignore his heroics in the NFC Championship game versus Arizona, which put the team in position to win.  They ignore how the Eagles defense didn’t show up.  They refuse to give him credit for all the good he has done for this football team, they only point out the bad.

It would be comparable to only talking about how the Phillies loss to the Yankees in the World Series this year and ignoring all of the heroics hits and plays they had to make in order to get there.

You would have to ignore their outstanding regular season, which saw them win a divisional championship.  And you would have to ignore their playoff wins over the Rockies and the Dodgers.

It makes it easier to say that the Phillies accomplished nothing in 2009, but it’s not a really true argument.
