Adviser: Pacquiao to fight Mayweather, Jr.

Manny Pacquiao adviser Michael Koncz tells the Associated Press that his client is likely to fight Floyd Mayweather, Jr. on March 13th.¬† He said that while details of the contract need to be straightened out, the proposal from Bob Arum looks good and it shouldn’t be a problem.

“Manny has some additional requirements, requests, which Arum didn’t think was a problem,” Koncz said. “The requests of Manny were so realistic that Arum doesn’t feel it’s a problem and it’s pretty much a done deal.”

In an interview with GMA television, Pacquiao said that March 13th worked for him.

“The difference between Floyd and others I have fought is that Floyd makes a lot of trash talk that should not be imitated by young people,” he said.

This is probably the one fight that boxing fans have been looking forward to for some time.¬† I know I personally haven’t been all that interested in the sport since the demise of guys like Sugar Shane Mosley, Naseem Hamed (loved to watch him lose), Oscar de la Hoya, Ike Quartey and Tito Trinidad.¬† It goes without saying that the heavyweight division has been worthless for years, long before these guys.

Mayweather supposedly retired (just like Iverson did) in 2008, but money will bring anyone back to work.¬† We’ll see what Mayweather has left in the tank.¬†
