The Eagles have the pieces in place offensively to be able to score 30 to 35 points against any defense in the league if they continue to work on their weaknesses.
If they get Brian Westbrook and DeSean Jackson back and at full strength there’s no way they should let a defense shut them down.
Some of the injuries they’ve had during the season have forced LeSean McCoy and Jeremy Maclin to mature and it could benefit the Birds down the stretch and in the playoffs.
The route to the NFC Championshp game and Super Bowl is much tougher this year than it was a year ago.
The Eagles offense must be functioning at full strength and their best effectiveness if they want to play in Miami in February.
They have some serious flaws in a number of areas which must be cleaned up as they make their way to the playoffs.
We have seen their problems in the red zone for years now.¬† They’ve improved some but they have a long way to go.
I would venture to guess that they’re going to try more things with Michael Vick as a run threat before the season is completed.
I want to see them continue to work on the power running game down there with Leonard Weaver and Eldra Buckley.
I could see them moving Nick Cole to fullback, replacing him at right guard with Max Jean-Gilles and pounding the football straight ahead.  If they could overpower one team, it would do a lot for the offense.
You must make a goalline or short yardage defense respect your ability to pound them with power before you can open things up with true play action passes.
Donovan McNabb must find a route and receiver he likes down there in key situations.¬† Brent Celek is probably the guy, but they’ve got to get on the same page.¬† Second team tight end Alex Smith needs to become a threat down there as well.
Jason Avant does a good job in tight areas and is capable to making the big catch.
It’s a must that they be effective in this area in big games.
It would be great if they could gradually work Brian Westbrook back into the offense.¬† Despite the outstanding job LeSean McCoy has done, he’s not on the level of Westbrook on his best day.
If the Birds dream of being able to go into the domes of Minnesota and New Orleans and shake up the football world, they need a healthy Westbrook on board to do it.
A healthy Westbrook would stress a defense because of the big screen threat and his ability to run routes downfield.¬† It’s not a must that he carries the ball a lot but he needs to touch it at least 5 to 10 a game depending on his health.
Of course a healthy DeSean Jackson is needed, that’s why it’s important that they get him back into a groove this weekend.¬†
The maturation of Jeremy Maclin must continue so teams will pay a price if they try to leave him one on one all game while doubling Jackson.
Kevin Curtis may return, which could allow the Birds to put more speed on the field.  They could allow Curtis to split time with Avant inside to get more speed on the field.
All of the talk about the skill position means nothing if the big boys upfront can’t get the job done.¬† I’ll talk about them later.
