Last year the Giants were rolling along for most of the season as the best team in football. They were bullies on both sides of the ball.
Their offensive line was the best in football and Eli Manning could throw the ball up to his big brother Plaxico Burress anytime he got in trouble.
Brandon Jacobs was running over people and challenging the entire league to stop them.
During that time they were the defending Super Bowl champs, so NFL fans and experts were trying to hand them another Lombardi Trophy.
The Eagles threw a wrench in the plans. Punched both their defensive line and their offensive line in the mouth and showed everybody that these guys aren’t as tough as they appear to be.
The Birds moved eight men into the box to stop their run because Jim Johson didn’t think Manning could beat them through the air.
Johnson was right and the Birds beat the Giants late in the season then sent then home early in the playoffs even though New York was the hands on favorite to go to the Super Bowl.
The Giants got off to another strong start this season but their defense has been exposed and the Eagles didn’t help matters by totally shredding their secondary earlier in the season.
Now it seems that the rest of the league looks at the Gaints differently. Teams know that they can have their way with the Giants secondary.
They also know that they don’t have to fear the Giants running game as much any more because their offensive line has been playing banged up and their running backs have had the injury bug hit them.
Manning has a problem with his foot and errant throws. If he has to throw a lot he will make mistakes.
He completed only 11 passes against the Cowboys. Yes only 11 passes, but one of them was a swing route to Jacobs which he took 74 yards for a touchdown.
I don’t think that’s going to happen against the Birds and we all know how Manning struggles in the Meadowlands cold weather when the wind gets ahold of his throws.
I hope Asante Samuel and Sheldon Brown are ready to up their interception totals.
