My thoughts Eagles/Giants

As good as the Eagles offense was last night (and it was very good), the defense was equally as bad.¬† But, for now, it doesn’t matter.¬† The Eagles went into the Meadowlands and manhandled a woeful Gaints defense to get the win.

And the bottom line for right now is that they are at 9-4 and sit atop the NFC East.¬† So, let’s look at the game:

What I liked…

-I have to give credit to Andy Reid and his offense.¬† His playcalling right now is balanced, aggressive and innovative.¬† We are all quick to rip him (and I’m right there included in that) when the offense stinks up the joint, but my hat goes off to Reid for the job he did Sunday night.

-Despite the one interception and the just-out-of-reach bomb to Reggie Brown, Donovan McNabb was brilliant.¬† If Romo gets ripped for being lousy in December, then Donovan deserves praise for his play in the last month of the year (it is the last month, I looked it up).¬† 275 yards and he led a masterful 12-play, 91-yard drive to put the Eagles up two TD’s with just minutes to play.

-It’s good to see Leonard Weaver becoming so involved these days.¬† He’s a really nice weapon to have.¬† Please re-sign him.¬†

-What can I really say about DeSean Jackson?  He is an elite player at this point.

-Despite the poor defensive play (500+ yards??), they did manage to take the ball away a few times.

-Trent Cole’s strip of Brandon Jacobs that led to the Sheldon Brown’s TD was very big.¬†¬†

This is how we imagined Vick being used.

…and not so much…

-I’m not one to complain about the refs, but they were atrocious last night.¬† I didn’t really see the illegal contact calls that kept a Giants drive alive that led to a Hakeem Nicks TD.¬† Brent Celek was mugged at the goal line and there was no call.¬† And the Eagles recovered Hixon’s fumble with two clear seconds left on the clock before the half.¬† Awful.¬†¬†

-Quinton Mikell is a very good player, but he was terrible last night.

-If I’m Sean McDermott, I focus on tackling all week.¬† Sloppy, sloppy tackling.¬† Just awful.¬† That kind of tackling will get you bounced from the playoff really quick.¬†

-What are the Giants doing so well that they are able to get in David Akers’ kitchen repeatedly on extra points. Not 50-yarders, extra points.¬†

-Sean Jones gave a lousy effort as Domenik Hixon ran right by him.

-Where is the pass rush?¬† No wonder Eli Manning carved up the secondary, they couldn’t get near him.

That’s all for now.¬† I don’t want to pile on them too bad after they just took sole possession of the NFC East.¬† Next up, they host the 49ers, who will travel across the country on a short week.¬†
