Andy Reid said that he expects Brian Westbrook to be cleared to play this week. Still I doubt that any Eagles fans will put much hope in seeing Westbrook back out there and injruy-free this weekend.
We’ve seen him sustain two concussions in consecutive games in which he has played. Nobody wants to see anything bad happen to BWest.
A lot of fans would like to see him shut things down for good but Reid says he still wants to play.
His legs are rested and fresh, which isn’t good news for defenders.
It seems that the emergence of DeSean Jackson and his unique form of big play ability has made a lot of fans forget about the amazing talents of Westbrook.
He has taken a simple running play and turned it into a masterpiece with two or three moves and accelleration.
In the open field he is lethal as he makes tacklers miss.
Westbrook has taken a screen pass and worked his magic on it so well that nobody can believe it.
You do remember the clincher last year against the Vikings.
Still Brian isn’t somebody whom fans are seriously counting on to return and be a factor, but it seems that Andy Reid and Marty Mornhinweg are dreaming of having Westbrook back for the end of the season and the playoffs.
I think they see him as the x-factor to take what has been a packed and explosive offense and move it up a notch or two in consistency and versatility.
They want to put defensive coordinators in a bind so that they have to figure how to double-team Jackson while at the same time, giving help to a linebacker who is caught one on one with Westbrook.
Some of those defensive coordinators will be approaching the league office in an attempt to get an extra defender.
The Eagles will need all hands on deck if they have to go into New Orleans and Minnesota domes to get victories.
