Joe Banner said something at the beginning of the season that sounded ridiculous at the time but the more I think about it, the more it seems legitimate.
Banner said the Eagles have the best roster in NFL. He was ridiculed for the comment, but think about it.
Donovan McNabb got hurt in the first game and backup quarterback Kevin Kolb started for a couple of weeks and threw for three hundred yards in each game.
They also have former Pro Bowl quarterback Michael Vick on the roster.
The Eagles are on the verge of breaking their team scoring record despite having lost an All-Pro offensive lineman in Shawn Andrews.
The offensive line is also getting the job done without Stacy Andrews.
Starting wide receiver Kevin Curtis missed the entire season before catching his first pass in the Niners game. Rookie Jeremy Maclin has taken over without missing a beat.
When he went down they were able to put former starter Reggie Brown in there in his place.
They’ve been playing without Pro Bowl running back Brian Westbrook, who just a couple of years ago was regarded as one of the best backs in football, yet their offense is still one of the most explosive in the league.
Rookie LeSean McCoy has done a quality job stepping in for BWest.
They lost middle linebacker Stewart Bradley, who was on the verge of being a Pro Bowler, yet the defense is rated amongst the top ten in the league.
The bottomline is that the Eagles do have one of the best rosters in the league.
They’ve already qualified for the playoffs despite the injuries and it seems that some of their backups are better than the starters.
I don’t know if it’s the best roster in the league but I think you could make a good argument about it being the deepest.
