Michael Vick was voted the Ed Block courage award by his teammates today. It shocked many but it’s been obvious for awhile that it was going to happen.
Andy Reid, Donovan McNabb and all the other players and coaches feel that Vick has done a tremenous job of getting his life back together and helping this football team as well.
I know a lot people can’t understand it and some might be angered by it, but most of the players identify with Vick and their hearts are with him.
First of all and unfortunately many of the Eagles players have family and friends, who have been incarcerated. It’s something that’s unfamiliar to most people but not to many young black men.
People forget that Vick was a hero to a lot of the guys on this roster when he broke into the NFL as the number one draft pick. They were in middle school, high school and college when he was that talk of the league.
A couple of years ago, they saw him destroy his life, now they’re watching him rebuild it.
“They know what I’ve been through. I’ve been through a lot,” Vick said. “It’s been great to come back and have an opportunity to play and be with a great group of guys.”
I’ve talked to Vick quite a few times and observed him since he’s been here and I believe his fall has humbled him.
I don’t know his heart but
