It’s a mess in Washington

Eagles fans must love to see this.¬† If you didn’t think it was a big enough train wreck down in D.C. before, with 17 coaches all relaying plays to one another and another four of them telling Jason Campbell which one it is, it’s just getting worse.

Their prize off-season acquisition, DT Albert Haynesworth, who has been hurt an ineffective, is now poisoning the well.¬† Multiple sources tell Brad Biggs of the National Football Post that just days after blasting the team for not having any direction or leadership, Haynesworth tried to convince his fellow teammates to show up late for an early Christmas Day practice.¬† I’m serious.

So what did he do?  He showed up an hour later than he was supposed to and took the field anyway.  He and head coach Jim Zorn (there is no way this guy wants to be there either) got into an animated conversation and Haynesworth was sent home.

“I sent Albert home, just for disciplinary reasons,” Zorn told the media after practice was over. “I think that all that will be kept between Albert and I. He wasn’t belligerent or nasty to me, and I was not nasty to him. It was just something that needed to be done. It’s just between us and our football team, and I hope it stays that way.”

Yeah, umm…it didn’t.

Per Doug Farrar of Yahoo! Sports, Haynesworth told Jason Reid and Dan Steinberg exactly what he thought.

“If they keep this system the way it is, then they would label Albert Haynesworth a bust who didn’t live up to the contract,” Haynesworth said.¬† “Everybody would say he just took the money and ran off. And I’m still playing as hard as I possibly can. But you can only do so much within the system that’s put around you. And I’m not talking about the players. The players have been great. I couldn’t ask for any better guys. I’m talking about the system. And [the coaches] can say whatever they want about that [the reason he was sent home Friday]. The main thing it’s coming from is what I said after the game about leadership and about the team.”

Haynesworth has been banged up and ineffective for the most part in Washington.¬† But it’s not his fault, just ask him.¬† He’s now adding “poisoning the locker room” to his list of abilities.

I do want to give Jim Zorn credit though.¬† He has been through a miserable season and been stripped of play-calling duties and on and on and on.¬† He’s been a complete professional throughout and I have to give him credit.¬† One would have to think that any potential head-coaching candidates are watching this mess and deciding if they really want to be part of it.

Well done, Dan Snyder….again.
