Broncos Control DJax But Other Receivers Make Them Pay

Avant makes one handed catchThe Denver Broncos defense came to Lincoln Financial Field intent on not letting DeSean Jackson beat them and they did just that.

They had perennial Pro Bowl cornerback Champ Bailey chasing him all over the field with help deep.

Bailey did a great job but this opened the door for rest of the Birds receivers to have a big day and they did especially in the first half.  With the focus on Jackson, all the other receivers were facing man to man coverage.

Jackson still managed to catch 4 passes for 33 yards and a touchdown.

Tight end Brent Celek, who is having a Pro Bowl season had one of the best first halves that I’ve ever seen a tight end have.

Celek and Avant celebrate TDHe caught four passes for 121 yards and a touchdown in the first half of the game.  Yes you saw it correctly, 121 yards in the first half.

Rookie Jeremy Maclin made them pay by catching 6 passes for 92 yards and of course that included a tremendous grab to set up the game winning field goal by David Akers.

The catch was a great one as he kept his feet in bounds and stretched to catch the football in his hands.

The rookie showed a great poise during the play because the game was on the line and the Birds needed a play.  McNabb put the ball outside on this go route.  The kid made the adjustment and made the catch.

Jason Avant contributed a brilliant diving touchdown catch of a deflected ball. Avant finished with two catches for 25 yards.

LeSean McCoy caught only one pass and that was a screen.  He took and made classic winding run with the football.
