It was a wild one last night at Soldier’s Field in Chicago as the Minnesota Vikings continued showing their weaknesses and self-destructing.
Adrian Peterson’s fumble set up a Jay Cutler touchdown pass and it opened the door for the Eagles to be the second-seed in the NFC playoffs.
Brett Favre did a great job of bringing Minnesota back but he couldn’t overcome the big night of Cutler and the Vikings multiple turnovers and poor special play.
No longer are the Vikings feared and neither are the Saints. We knew that the New Orleans defense was suspect but now we see that the Vikings secondary can’t handle receivers with speed. You know what that means if they play the Eagles.
It’s why I think the two best teams in the NFC will meet on Sunday in Dallas.
As far as I’m concerned this game against the Cowboys will be the Eagles first playoff game and it will be their toughest game in the NFC.
The Cowboys have some outstanding safeties who can get physical with the Birds and run with their speed. Not everybody has that.
The Birds will have to drive to score and they have two outstanding pass rushers in DeMarcus Ware and Anthony Spencer, so it limits how much time McNabb has in the pocket.
The defense will have to play well
If they were to get the second-seed they would get the first week off and they would play their first game at home against the Cardinals, Packers or Cowboys.
A week off would give Brian Westbrook a chance to get two additional weeks of practice before playing a playoff game.
It might also put wide receiver Kevin Curtis in position to come back and help them. I think the Eagles need to think about alternating Curtis in the slot position with Jason Avant.
Of course Avant is an outstanding wide out but he doesn’t have the speed and quickness of Curtis who might match up better against the third cornerbacks the Eagles will face.
