The defensive backs and linebackers had a tough day yesterday. They must play much better for the Birds to have any chance in their third battle with the Cowboys.
Quintin Mikell may have Pro Bowl level football a year ago, but he’s surely not playing it now. He just flat out missed the tackle on the Felix Jones touchdown run.
He gets beaten by tight ends on a regular basis.
The linebacker situation is a major problem. They don’t have anybody who can be competent versus the pass and running games.
Rookie linebacker Moise Fokou continues to get stupid penalties. He got his hands up in Tony Romo’s face and got a flag because of it.
Will Witherspoon isn’t a physical linebacker. Akeem Jordan is still learning at the middle linebacker spot.
I loved the way Jeremiah Trotter attacked the running game but they can’t leave him alone on Witten.
Asante Samuel made a great play in forcing the interception by Joselio Hanson, but he must learn that there are times to just knock the ball down.
This saved at least a field goal or a touchdown. He makes mistakes but he makes plays.
That was the case on the catch and run play on the sideline to Miles Austin. He could knocked the ball down but he tried to intercept it.
What was Sheldon Brown doing on the first third down in the game when he got the pass interference penalty? He had help inside but grabbed the receiver while he was falling to the ground.
Brown has to take away the touchdown pass to Patrick Crayton and give up the short throw. A veteran with his experience can’t make things that easy for the quarterback.
If anything he should bait him into the throw by faking like he’s going up on the short guy and then run back and pick off the throw to Crayton.
On the Felix Jones touchdown run, Brown was blocked in the open field by an offensive lineman for nearly four seconds. He’s got to get off the block.
Why does Joselio Hanson line outside of the guy he’s covering on a blitz? It’s a rule that you take away the inside when you’re in man to man coverage.
He let Patrick Crayton catch a slant and he didn’t even have a chance to make a play.
