What a game.¬† Let’s hope Brent Celek was right that sometimes you get on these winning streaks and you start to feel a little over confident (he said something to that effect) and games like this happen.The silver lining is that this was a wakeup-style butt whooping.¬† You can’t get embarrassed like this and not change up what you are doing.¬† So let’s check out the game:
What I liked…
…and not so much…
-We can talk about tackling and being in the right positions all day.¬† But the bottom line is that this defense just seems outmanned.¬† The linebackers as a unit are just horrific.¬† With Quintin Mikell playing like this, the safeties are a disaster.¬† Macho Harris is not a starting safety on a good defense.¬† He’s a starting safety on this defense, which just doesn’t do it for me.¬†
-G. has said this repeatedly, but I want to echo it.¬† Can anyone on this defense get off a block?¬† It’s a joke.
-Going back to the Denver game, the Eagles have been lousy for six straight quarters.  Should this be a concern?
-I don’t like the call of going for the 53-yard field goal there.¬† Not because I don’t trust Akers, but you had a short distance to go at that “just go for it” part of the field.¬† Get the first down, keep the ball, rest your defense, get a closer field goal or (gasp!) maybe even a touchdown.
-Can anyone catch?¬† This was the worst game for pass catching for the Eagles all year.¬† DeSean kept dropping them.¬† Celek dropped a pair.¬† Maclin let an important one go right through his hands (yes, it was a little behind him, but I don’t care.¬† You have to make that grab.¬† It barely even touched his hands).¬† I even saw Avant drop one, when does that happen?
-Speaking of Maclin, if you are going to rag on Todd Pinkston for this, you have to jump on Maclin.¬† Did anyone catch a whiff of his demeanor on that deep ball at the end of the game?¬† He made absolutely zero effort to catch that ball and even took his eyes off of it completely.¬† He looked so disinterested on that one it was pathetic.¬† You want to get paid to play like a top receiver and #1 draft pick?¬† Make an effort.¬† That’s disgraceful.
-McNabb can get in line as one of the player’s that didn’t do much to help his team win on Sunday.¬† I’ve seen him play worse for sure, and he had a lot of dropped balls, but he missed some important throws.¬†¬†
-Stupid penalties are great.
-Where is the pass rush?¬† You expect to beat a Cowboys team with no pass rush?¬† This just compounds the problem of players not being good enough, not knowing where they are supposed to be, not tackling, etc…
-It would have been nice to run the ball more, but I can understand it a little bit since they were falling farther and farther behind. 
I could go on, but really, why?¬† It was one of those days where you realized in the third quarter some time that it just wasn’t going to happen.¬† Reminded me of the Raiders game.¬† Nothing can go right.¬† Players who are usually good play like garbage.¬† It was just a lousy time to have a game like this.¬† Let this be a wakeup call and hope they get it together for next week’s more important game.¬†
