Reid Says Everybody Must Play Better This Time

Andy Reid made it plain at his news conference today.  In big games, players have to play at a higher level and coaches have to coach at a higher level.

He said they were outcoached and outplayed.

Reid refused to single out the young guys as the reason they didn’t win the football game.¬† Andy said everybody on the team needed to perform better both players and coaches.

He didn’t want to dwell on what happened on Sunday but did point out some of the mistakes they made with timeouts and getting away from the running game.

Big Red wasn’t very specific about the mistakes but he made a very important by saying they had to matter of factly get over the loss and start preparing for Saturday’s game.

I could see that he was focusing on the emotions.¬† Fans can sit and cry for a few days but the players can’t afford to do that.¬†

They must get themselves over the loss from an emotionally standpoint, then get focused on the next game.

After the game , Marty Mornhinweg wasn’t able to explain all of the dropped balls but he did say it’s either mental or physical.¬† The he went on to say that he thought it was mental because the Eagles receivers have great hands.

Reid says the offensive line and defensive line will have to to step up this time around.  He said he thought Nick Cole and Max Jean-Gilles played okay.

Andy said the Eagles blitzed more than everybody thought because some of the blitzes were easy to see.  In fact he let it be known that the first big run by Marion Barber was against a blitz. 

This is one of the weaknesses of blitzing, you can get gashed by a running play which splits the blitzing defenders.

The Birds will start their work week tomorrow rather than on Wednesday because they’re playing on Saturday.¬† It’s going to mean one day less to get ready.
