You’ve read and heard that Brian Westbrook is through but I’ve looked closely at last week’s Eagles-Cowboys game and I don’t agree with that assessment. He just needs more room to operate.
A lot of things you read and hear here in Philadelphia are nothing but guys copying what they read or heard from somebody else.
The big question surrounding Westbrook is whether he will get the chance to do anything in the game tonight.
I think he has something left because I saw his jets on a running play which went outside and I saw him turn on the jets to get out of bounds near the sideline.
When Westbrook is in the game, the Cowboys are using two linebackers on him and their defensive line to prevent the screen play. The Eagles should walk him out and get the clear one-on-one match with him and the safety or linebacker.
I don’t know how many chances the Birds are going to give him to make something happen. We may see nothing but LeSean McCoy and Leonard Weaver in there tonight.
BWest won’t demand that he gets the ball, he’s going to leave that up to Andy Reid and Marty Mornhinweg. As folr what he thinks his role will be.
“It’s hard to say,” Westbrook said. “I don’t have a number. Whatever plays coach calls, whatever opportunities I have, I’m going to try to take advantage of them.
“I think it’s important for me to get some opportunities in the game, but what has been winning us football games is running the ball with LeSean (McCoy) and Leonard (Weaver) and spreading the ball to our different receivers.
“We still have to continue to do that, and hopefully I can help out here and there, whatever situations coach gives me.”
If the Eagles coaching staff decides to do that, I think they’re making a mistake.
He just needs the ball and some room to operate.
