The Eagles problems on defense started upfront. They were dominated in this game against a big physical Cowboys offensive line. They got pushed around versus the running game and couldn’t get pressure on the quarterback without blitzing.
With Flozell Adams getting the best of Pro Bowler Trent Cole, the Eagles had no chance of putting any pressure on Tony Romo without blitzing. On the other side, Juqua Parker was being handled by Cowboys right tackle Marc Columbo.
The defensive tackles Mike Patterson and Brodrick Buckley were no problem because they didn’t get anywhere near Romo. The Birds had to blitz and it exposed their corners. Unfortunately the Eagles corners, Asante Samuel and Sheldon Brown weren’t ready to cover the Eagles wide receivers.
Brown, who is rarely critcized by the local media, was beaten badly last week for a touchdown. They ran slants all day long on third down to beat Brown.
He was awful in coverage last night as he got turned around dominated. He was just bad as a tackler.
Samuel who plays off of wide receiver was victimized by the Cowboys with quick screeens. Remember a year ago in the NFC Championship game, Samuel was victimized by the Cardinals who sent Larry Fitzgerald across the field because Samuel always plays off the receiver.
This time it was the quick screen which was utilized against him.
Quintin Mikell is a shadow of the player who played so well a year ago. He can’t cover anybody anymore and he can’t tackle.
Macho Harris has been very disappointing. He’s a poor tackler and cover guy.
Harris had a chance to make a tackle on the first third down situation but dove at the ball carrier’s legs and allowed him to get a first down.
Sean Jones has shown that he can tackle but he’s a liability in pass coverage. He’s a strong safety who is playing out of position if he’s not up on the line of scrimmage.
I don’t want to ever see Akeem Jordan at middle linebacker. He was a disaster last week and this week. He played like he was blind. He didn’t read his keys and made the Eagles seem like they were playing with 10 men.
Jeremiah Trotter didn’t play as well last night as he did a week ago. He looked slow last night and wasn’t attacking like he had the week before.
Chris Gocong made a sack and a couple of plays versus the run
